Broken Spokes Bicycle Club is currently

observing our annual Winter Hiatus.

Please note:  We have a name!!

We will have some monthly-ish get-togethers to stay in touch through the winter.  Several of us are planning to do the 2010 Chili Challenge on January 1st.  Everyone is welcome to join us if you can handle it!! :-).  Weekly rides will resume next spring, exact date TBA.  We plan to ride at 6PM Mondays again next year.  Everyone is encouraged to ride as much as you can in the meantime.

Weekly Ride - Suspended for winter

(Helmets required!)

During our regular season we follow the following schedule:

We will have a devotional and a ride consisting of two loops:

  • 1st loop is short (about 5 miles) and easy, and the experienced cyclists will be there to help and encourage those just starting out.
  • 2nd loop will be longer and faster depending on weather, and is intended to be challenging.
  • We are considering 3 groups for 2010; Fast, Medium and Beginner.  More info will be forthcoming as we get closer.

Apple Cider Century Report

The ride was awesome!  Weather was sunny and in the 70's.  The wind did get a little strong as the day wore on, but everyone in our club who started, finished their ride.  We are extremely proud of everyone who participated. They all did great.  And for almost all of them this was the first time they've ridden the distance they completed during the ride.  Below is a list of finishers.  ( *) denotes those for whom this was a new personal one day distance record:

Half Century (50 miles)

Jackie Avery* , Sue Clear* & Tammy Otis

True Century (100 miles)

Terry Avery*, Chris Clear*, Adam Diehl*, Nathan Diehl*, Isaac Houser*, Layna Houser*, Jeremiah Otis & Jim Otis

About New Hope Bicycle Club
The bicycle club purpose is to encourage and get to know one another better while doing something we enjoy which will also benefit our health (bicycling). We meet on Mondays at 6PM, take a ride together followed by a short devotional and pray for each other's needs. The bulk of our time together is spent riding.

All adults are welcome. Any bike will do (well, as long as it has no motor) and special bicycle clothing is not necessary. Children and young adults may join us if they are accompanied by a parent and are old enough to ride on the road.  If you have a trail-a-bike or trailer and want to pull a younger child behind you, that's fine, too.

Helmets are required!

Our ride plan for the time being is to take a leisurely ride in the countryside around Waterloo. We loop back to the church after 5 miles. After a short break, we continue for another 5 miles. The terrain is not very hilly, and we always pray for light winds and no rain. We understand, however, that God is sovereign and can do what He will with the weather, a fact to which our first three rides together can attest (such wind!!). For now we ride in one group. As we grow and see the need, we plan to create as many groups as necessary to meet the riding styles of all who participate.

Neither wind nor rain will deter us. (Us machos thrive on inclement weather!!)
