--You can begin to pray about making a financial pledge toward New Hope’s Global Evangelism budget for the year, or you can designate a weekly or monthly offering toward Global Evangelism along with your regular 10% giving. --You can pray for the missionaries and ministries associated with New Hope. --You can become active in projects the Global Evangelism Team (GET) engages in to stimulate and maintain a missions focus throughout the congregation. GET members are: Keith Chastain, Pastor Ralph Diehl, Patrick Erne, Pastor Sean Hartzell, Jeff Heisler, Lowell King, Lori Sattison. -- You can become a cross-cultural missionary. New Hope has a process assisting anyone actively investigating the call to cross-cultural missions: Step One (3 – 6 months) Missionary Interest Stage 1. Commitment to an active ministry in the local church. “Let them first be proved.” (1 Timothy 3:10) a.Observe the leadership skills of the individual, whether working as a ministry leader or directly in association with a ministry leader. Leadership skills with a volunteer workforce needs proven. b. It isn’t a matter of; are they faithful? it is: i. Are they a leader? ii. Is anybody following them? iii. Are they a self-starter? iv. What ministries do they lead? v. How many people do they lead? vi. Do they have fruit that produces evidence of their calling? 1. Education is not fruit. A degree does not qualify a person for ministry. a. Schedule the candidate to work in each of the ministries in the church to give them a wider perspective, as well as to observe their servanthood attitude. b. Observe the interpersonal relationship skills of the individual. c. Establish a track record in personal evangelism and success in ministry. 2. Read and pray through “Operation World.” 3. Daily pray for missionaries that New Hope supports. 4. Be interviewed to get clarification concerning their desires and what mission work entails. 5. Do local cross-cultural research. 6. Visit a church that is predominantly of a different ethnic group. 7. Reevaluation of their calling with the pastor. Step Two (10 – 12 months) Missionary Discipleship Stage 1. Continue to read/ pray through “Operation World” and pray for missionaries. 2. Complete a personal discipleship-training course. 3. Take a test to identify your spiritual gifts, personality type, and a spiritual assessment profile. 4. Complete the course of study. a. www.icmusa.org/perspectives.php b. www.uscwm.org/ 5. Become involved with local cross-cultural ministry. 6. Complete a 2 – 3 week short-term mission trip that is designed for your particular calling. 7. Write a “statement of life purpose” and a five-year plan for developing a missionary career. 8. Complete reading assignments given by your pastor. 9. Develop a plan for formal Bible and missions training. 10. Review with the pastor a sound missions strategy for the area you feel called. Step Three (2 – 4 years) Missionary Training Stage 1. Complete a four year college degree with a foundation in general education, Bible knowledge, theology, missiology, and practical theology. a. Or, submit to the training required from a reputable missions agency. b. www.mvi.org 2. Continue prayer for the world using “Operation World,” and missionaries that are supported by New Hope. 3. Refine your five-year goals. 4. Complete reading assignments given by your pastor. 5. Complete a 2 – 3 month missionary internship.
Step Four (2 – 4 years) Missionary Apprentice Stage 1. Select a senior missionary on the field from whom to learn under. 2. Prepare a strategy statement and a job description for the apprenticeship period. 3. Do deputation work. 4. Be commissioned by New Hope. 5. Depart for the field. 6. Do language study on the field. Step Five Missionary Mentor Stage 1. Seek graduate education if necessary. 2. Perform mobilization and training ministry in New Hope. 3. Lead a short-term trip from New Hope. |
